TOEFL iBT Test Preparation

In order to meet the challenge of providing a more comprehensive assessment of a student's ability to understand and use the English language in an academic environment, a " next generation " TOEFL Test has been developed to assess all four language skills - listening, reading, writing, and speaking. This new improved version of the TOEFL Test is called the TOEFL internet based test.

The new test is being administered on fixed dates in a network of secure Internet based test centers and will take about 4 hours to complete. While some questions in each of the sections are similar to questions found on the computer-based TOEFL (CBT), others are new. The scoring system has been changed as well. Each of the four language skills will now be reported on a scale of 0 to 30 with a total score of 120.

TOEFL iBT Testing @ ANCONS

ANCONS is now an approved and authorized TOEFL iBT Testing Center (STN 10910A) and interested students can register online with ETS.ORG.

About the test: TOEFL iBT consists of four sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing with each section carrying 30 scale score. Before you sit for the TOEFL iBT test it is always recommended that you get all relevant information pertaining to the test like the test structure, test fees, test administration centers, test registration, etc.

In accordance with certain principles laid down by ETS, arrangements are made so that disabled persons are also able to take up the test. ETS has its own disability services wing to assist the disabled with suitable accommodation and arrangements. For availing of this package, the disabled student has to apply directly to ETS.

Registering for TOEFL iBT: For registering for TOEFL iBT, you need to pay the requisite test fees and fill up the application form and send the same through surface mail or fax. You can also register yourself through online or by phone. To contact the list of TOEFL iBT test administrators in your region, refer to the ETS website. During the time of registration you are allowed to send scores to four universities. TOEFL iBT scores will reach you approximately 15 days after you take the test. Universities will also receive the same around the same time.

Test fees & the acceptable modes of payment: For India, test fees for TOEFL iBT is 150 US Dollars. Fees can be paid through a credit card, an electronic check (e-check), money order and dollar draft. All cheques and drafts should be made payable to "ETS-TOEFL iBT." Please note that you can also go for a late registration by paying an additional 25 US Dollars till three days prior to your requested test date.

Cancellation and rescheduling: Rescheduling fee for TOEFL iBT is 40 US Dollars and cancellation fee is 75 US Dollars. Both cancellation or rescheduling of TOEFL iBT should be done no later than three days before the test date.

On the day of the test: On the day of the test you need to reach your TOEFL iBT administration center at least an hour before the test starts. Remember to carry along with you a valid passport without which you will not be eligible to take the test. You should not be carrying much of regular belongings like cell phones, calculators etc. on the day of the test.

The center will provide for all sorts of help that you might need during the test hours. All TOEFL iBT administration centers throughout India and in different parts of the world assist students with pencils, paper, erasers, hearing and speaking devices like microphones, earplugs etc. The test takes around 4 hours to complete. After you finish off with your test, do not forget to click report scores. Please note that under the new system of TOEFL iBT, it is only during registration that you are supposed to mention the name of 4 colleges or universities where you want your scores to be reported.

Validity of TOEFL iBT Scores: TOEFL scores are valid for two years. Under specific conditions and circumstances, the university might accept TOEFL scores that are more than two years old.

Additional Score Reports: For sending additional scores you have to fill the additional score request form, pay the requisite fees and directly send it directly to ETS. You can send the forms through online mail or fax.
